In an attempt to improve the content of its platform, Facebook will now credit publishers if their video is viewed for a minimum of three seconds and eliminate those that have minimal "views."
The social media giant would now use a new algorithm that would determine the value of a video and rate that clip accordingly in a user's news feed.
"Today we announce a change in the way we classify the videos in News Feed to adjust the value we give to the amount of video that is seen," Facebook said in a blog on Saturday.
"One of the signs we see is the" percentage completion "- the percentage of each video you watch - to help us understand what videos you enjoyed. If you see most or all of the video, this tells us that you found the video to be convincing "Added the post.
This would tell Facebook how communities consume the videos, eventually empowering the company to avoid penalizing longer videos.
The microblogging site said it "expects that most pages do not see significant changes in distribution as a result of this update, the longer videos that people spend watching time can see a slight increase in distribution on Facebook."
This can also trigger a dive for shorter videos in the News Feed distribution.
