Twitter publishes letters revealing the extent of the demands of the US government. For user data

Twitter on Saturday became the latest technology giant after Yahoo, Cloudflare and Google to release National Security Letters (NSLs) from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that forced them to disclose user data to the government.

Technology companies have been talking over the past eight months about NSLs that came up with gag orders that prevented Twitter from telling target audiences or users about government demands in two letters it received in 2015 and 2016, , Tech Crunch reported.

The FBI recently lifted these gag orders, allowing Twitter to recognize NSLs for the first time.

In the newly published NSL, the FBI asked Twitter to provide "the name, address, length of service and transactional records of electronic communications" of two users.

The microblogging site said it gave a "very limited set of data" in response to requests and demanded more freedom to keep its point.

"Twitter remains dissatisfied with the restrictions on our right to speak more freely about national security requests that we may receive," Twitter Deputy General Counsel Elizabeth Banker said in a blog post.

"We would like a significant opportunity to challenge government restraints when 'classification' avoids speech on matters of public importance," Banker added.

Twitter has already unveiled these two letters and informed target users and is suing the Justice Department in an effort to talk more publicly about secret requests for user data.

Twitter change Moments with the Explore tab

You do not have to wander on Twitter to find its multiple features, since the micro-blogging site has launched a new tab called Explore that consolidates moments, search, hashtags trends and live video all the features in the same place.

"During our research process, people told us that the new Browse tab helped them easily find news, what is trend and what is popular right now," said Angela Lam, Product Designer Twitter, in a blog post Thursday.

According to a report on Redcode, since Twitter is replacing Moments with Explore, none of the individual features of the tab are new, only scattered in the Twitter application.

"Now everyone will be in the same place, the current search icon, a magnifying glass in the upper right corner of iOS, is gone," said a Twitter spokesman.

The Moments feature - a collection of tweets editors and users create around specific events - is being pushed a little further into the Twitter app.

Considered as the most prominent product launch Twitter has had, with months of executive accumulation, Moments was launched in late 2015.

Despite that, Twitter has not shared many meaningful indicators around Moments since its launch, as it has apparently not been a big hit.

The Browse tab is available to iOS users and will appear soon to Android users.

Twitter exec sees customer service channels as a source of income for the platform

Twitter is looking for income outside the traditional advertising sales helping companies develop customer service channels on its platform, according to its chief executive in Latin America, a testing ground for the new strategy.

Guilherme Ribenboim said in an interview on Friday that the features released this week give companies more ways to automate customer service through direct Twitter messages to customers, beyond simply responding to complaints or pay to promote positions.

Twitter now offers consulting and other services for other corporate partners in Brazil, the largest economy in Latin America, to take advantage of new features.

"As one of the fastest growing regions in the world, we have the critical mass of users and resources to invest in these consulting services" Ribenboim said. "We are testing this model, adding it to the mixture as we launch our planning for 2017."

Brazilian airline Gol Linhas Aereas SA has already developed an option for passengers to register on flights using a direct message from Twitter, Ribenboim said.

San Francisco, last week said it would cut 9 percent of its workforce and would discontinue the application of video Vine, as it aims to profit in 2017.

The marketing approach as a way Twitter is trying to boost revenue despite a slowdown in the growth of users this year, with less than a fifth of monthly active users of Facebook Inc. as rival

Ribenboim said new tools for customer service, along with recent partnerships with events live TV and acquiring Niche last year creative network, intended to differentiate Twitter in the increasingly competitive market digital ads.

Advertising sales accounted for 88 percent of the income of Twitter in the third quarter, compared to 90 percent last year.

Twitter, which has seen user growth amid competition from rivals such as Instagram noblest and Snapchat, said its user base marked a 3 percent to 317 million average monthly active users in the third quarter
