OnePlus 3T to be held in India from 2017: Report

China's OnePlus plans to make its 3T model in India early next year to meet growing demand in the world's second-largest smartphone market by users.

OnePlus is ranked by technology researcher IDC as the third-largest premium handset seller selling for more than $ 300 in India, behind Samsung Electronics and Oppo of China.

Earlier this year, it suspended a 2015 contract manufacturing agreement with Foxconn Technology Co Ltd to manufacture its mid-range X phones in South India.

Vikas Agarwal, general manager of Indian operations at OnePlus, said the company is now looking to make its new 3T phone in India, starting early next quarter.

The company, of which one-third of its global sales are from India, says it has already received 200,000 registrations for the 3T model priced at 29,999 rupees ($ 442) from the start of sales this week on the market Indian from Amazon.

"We probably lost, I would say, maybe 30 percent of sales due to stockouts," Agarwal told Reuters by phone Friday, referring to 3Q's sales and an earlier model.

"The focus is on trying our best to meet the demand."

He declined to comment on the fabrication deal this time, but said OnePlus will work with multiple partners including possibly Foxconn.

Agarwal said OnePlus did not have an immediate plan to sell through retail outlets and will continue to sell only on Amazon.

But plans to open in early January a center called experience center in the South India technology center of Bengaluru, where customers can come and see the OnePlus smartphones.

OnePlus also plans to add six more service centers to its existing seven, Agarwal said. It also offers services through 60 third-party outlets.
