Ducati 1299 Superleggera: Lightest mass-formed bike with the most energetic twin cylinder engine



The Italian superbike manufacturer Ducati has introduced the new version of the Superleggera 1299 and looks and sounds brilliant. Announced before the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milano, Italy, the new superbike is the most powerful two-cylinder engine ever produced and the lightest production motorcycle to go on sale.

The new 1299 Superleggera comes with a carbon fiber structure that includes the frame, swingarm, subtram and even wheels.

How light is the bike? Well, according to the company, the Superleggera only weighs 156 kg dry for the standard bike, the race kit drops the numbers to almost 150 kg. The weight is distributed as 2.6kg, 4.1kg, 4kg and 900gm for the frame, swingarm, wheels and the rear sub-frame. And power? The version of the action produces 215PS while the version of the race kit takes it further to 220PS and 147Nm of the maximum torque. That's crazy.

The new Ducati comes with lots of electronic spells, including a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (6D IMU) that handles the Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Power Launch and Motor Brake Control. The Ducati Slide Control has also been updated and presents three levels of intervention. There is also a Ducati Quick Shifter bidirectional along with the Ducati Data Analyzer + data capture system to analyze its performance.


There is also an optional racing kit that includes Akrapovic's titanium racing exhaust, race screen, mirror mirror sockets, front and rear paddock brackets and a bicycle cover. There is a multi-adjustable 43mm Ohlins FL936 inverted fork, while the Ohlins TTX36 monoshock unit has a titanium spring that is shaved another 0.5kg. Brembo 330mm twin disc brakes, along with the Brembo M50 monobloc calipers. As always, Ducati has limited production of the Superleggera 1299 to only 500 units with each cost of Rs 59.50 lakh and that is excluding taxes.
